My name is Ashley Pendo but most people know me as Lynn. Bizarre, I know because it has no relation to my three names. Lynn was the name I was named after I let out my first cry but my mother later changed it to Ashley, for reasons she knows best, though it has remained rooted in people’s minds.
My homeland is Kenya and although people say they want to live and die here, my thirst to explore the outside world is unquenchable. At the age of sixteen and studying in my dream school, The Kenya High school, I have big dreams and aspirations that sometimes I feel like I am being over-ambitious. I can say I am a girl driven by her goal. My goal is to finish High school and go to the University of Harvard where I would do a course in Medicine and Entrepreneurship.
After getting a good job I would like to start a sponsorship program and help the less fortunate in the society. l would also like to start up many businesses for example a real estate business. This I know will come to pass because I am hard working, determined, focused, a lover of teamwork and above all prayerful.
I am a girl who does not give up easily with the obstacles that life throws, instead I take the obstacles as stepping stones. I believe in the power of smiling and staying happy no matter what. I believe that when you’re sad and you try smiling all the sadness goes away. I believe in the power of being yourself and being honest. Respect in every aspect is my number one motto.
I believe where there is respect there is peace. Being the firstborn of three, I have learned to be responsible, disciplined, caring and loving. I believe being a role model is my number one duty. My hobbies are singing and dancing. I also love visiting new places, meeting new people and seeing new culture. Besides, I also love reading novels that make me feel as if I am part of it, a culture that was developed in me by my mother.
I love making new discoveries and spending time with family and friends. Besides, I love learning new skills. A favorite sport of mine is Basketball although I am not yet a pro. All I know is that I have a bright future ahead.
The idea of the H&P Foundation was birthed in recurrent discussions on how individuals in Africa who were born in underprivileged and impoverished backgrounds could escape the sometimes inevitable cycle of poverty.
